The Profile of a World Cup Top Goalscorer >>
And with that area in mind, we’re making an early move in the Top Goalscorer market today…
An Argentinean with potential this summer…
We all know about living legend Lionel Messi for Argentina. The great man will turn 39 years of age during the World Cup being held in USA, Mexico & Canada. Messi is 12/1 in the current World Cup 2026 Top Goalscorer market. With only previous Golden Boot winners Kylian Mbappe (6/1) and Harry Kane (7/1) ahead of him.
However, the one I like as an ante-post Each Way outsider right now is Messi’s Argentina teammate, JULIAN ALVAREZ…
The 26-year-old has had another impressive season for Atletico Madrid. In 2024/25, he hit seven goals for Atletico in the Champions League, and 17 in the Spanish La Liga. In 2025/26, Alvarez starred again in Europe, with a 10-goal tally that put him in the Champions League top-scorer Each Way places (Top 4)…
At the last World Cup in 2022 – where he was part of Argentina’s trophy-winning squad in Qatar – Julian was also in the Each Way places, finishing in the Top 4 spots, with four goals.
âš˝ Alvarez rounded off the season by scoring in 4 of his last 6 appearances for club & country. He missed the final few games with an ankle injury, but is reported fit for the World Cup as of the start of June
With Argentina the reigning champions going into this summer’s big event across the Atlantic, and European nations historically not faring as well at World Cups held outside of Europe. The South American contingent can be expected to make a strong showing once again.
At current odds of 33/1 – 25/1 with Each Way terms of 1/4 odds for 1-4 places, Julian Alvarez appeals here. A talented player with speed, a smart shot on him, and a calm finisher. Age 26, the best may be yet to come. We’ll find out this summer. Let’s take the big price now.
With all due respect to their opponents, Argentina should be looking to get some goals on the board during the Group stage matches:
